Outreach
Below are details of the current Outreach programmes that BJGP Open is running:
Support for authors from lower/middle-income countries (LMICs)
We are now able to offer extra editorial assistance for authors from lower/middle-income countries (LMICs) led by Dr Liz Sturgiss and Dr David Blane on our Editorial Board. We welcome submissions from researchers in LMICs who are keen to publish their work but have limited primary care resources and supervision.
- Manuscripts should be submitted to the journal via the ScholarOne submissions system. We will arrange one round of feedback from members of the Editorial Board.
- To ensure that the manuscript is processed correctly, please include the phrase ‘LMIC author support: pre-submission review’ at the beginning of your cover letter.
- There is no charge for this service and no guarantee of future publication.
- Authors who subsequently choose to submit their manuscript for publication in BJGP Open should highlight that they have received feedback from this programme by including the phrase ‘LMIC author support: feedback received’ in their cover letter
Student interns
BJGP Open is keen to support the next generation of primary care editors and publishers. We offer students 6–10 week part-time placement at the journal, which may be carried out in person or virtually. This opportunity is open to both UK and international applicants with no fees attached, but places are limited. We encourage students from all background and disciplines who have an interest in publication science or primary care research to get a behind-the-scenes look at our work. They will gain first-hand experience of the publication process from article submission to dissemination. Students will often undertake a research project related to publication science, contribute to peer review, and will have the opportunity to obtain feedback on scientific writing skills.
Our current placements are all carried out virtually with Bachelor of Clinical Science students from Macquarie University, Australia. Their virtual placements are being supervised by Dr Sarah White from our Editorial Board and the BJGP Open Editor. Students will learn about different aspects of academic publishing, meet interesting people through engaging with the Editorial Board, and gain project-based experience in primary care research and science communication.
We are not currently accepting new applications for the Student internship programme. Please check this page for further updates.
